The Dutch minimum wage for 2027 will be a new hourly rate from 1 January 2027, but on 28 October 2026 the official amount had not yet been published in the Staatscourant (Government Gazette). Until it is, the legal minimum for workers aged 21 and over is €14.99 an hour, the rate in force since 1 July 2026. We will add the new figure here as soon as it is official.
Minimum wage Netherlands 2027: what is known on 28 October 2026
Three points are settled and one is still open:
- Certain: the minimum wage changes on 1 January 2027, as it does every January and July.
- Certain: it stays an hourly amount. There has been no statutory monthly minimum since 2024.
- Certain: the youth percentages for ages 16 to 20 go up on the same date. That change is final and published in Staatsblad 2026, 279.
- Not yet known: the euro amount of the adult hourly rate from 1 January 2027. Some websites publish their own estimates. We do not, because the actual figure follows from the official indexation calculation.
How the twice-yearly indexation works
Under the Minimum Wage and Minimum Holiday Allowance Act (Wet minimumloon en minimumvakantiebijslag), the minimum wage is reviewed on 1 January and 1 July. The increase follows the average growth of contractual wages in the market sector, the subsidised sector and government. The Minister of Social Affairs and Employment sets the new amount in a regulation published in the Staatscourant, normally a few months ahead. The January 2026 rate was announced in early October 2025 and the July 2026 rate in April 2026.
| From | Per hour | Change |
|---|---|---|
| 1 July 2025 | €14.40 | – |
| 1 January 2026 | €14.71 | +2.15% |
| 1 July 2026 | €14.99 | +1.90% |
| 1 January 2027 | not yet published | – |
What a rise would mean for a monthly wage
To give a sense of scale, the table shows what different indexation percentages would do to today's €14.99. These are arithmetic examples, not forecasts of the official 2027 rate.
| Indexation | Hourly rate | Per month at 40 hours | Per month at 36 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| +1.5% | €15.21 | €2,636.40 | €2,372.76 |
| +2.0% | €15.29 | €2,650.27 | €2,385.24 |
| +2.5% | €15.36 | €2,662.40 | €2,396.16 |
Each step of half a percentage point is worth roughly €12 to €14 gross a month for a full-time worker. As a rule of thumb, a minimum-wage earner keeps around 60% of such an increase after tax. The minimum wage calculator still uses the 2026 rates; it will switch to the 2027 amount once that is published.
Youth wages: a bigger jump on the same day
For young workers, 1 January 2027 brings more than indexation. The percentages of the adult rate rise for every age from 16 to 20: for example from 50% to 62.5% at age 18 and from 80% to 87.5% at age 20. The rate for 15-year-olds stays at 30%. The separate, lower pay scale for apprentices on a work-based vocational track (BBL) is abolished, so they get the regular youth minimum. All details are in the article on the youth minimum wage in 2027.
What to check on your January 2027 payslip
- Your hourly rate. Divide your gross monthly salary by your monthly hours (weekly hours × 52 ÷ 12). The result must be at least the new minimum.
- Four-weekly pay. If you are paid every four weeks, the new rate applies to every hour worked from 1 January, also when the pay period started in December.
- Your cao scale. If your collective agreement pays more than the legal minimum, the minimum wage change may not affect you directly. Some cao scales are linked to it, though.
- Holiday allowance. Your 8% holiday allowance builds up on the higher wage from January onwards.
Your employer has to apply the new rate automatically. If they do not, ask in writing first; the Netherlands Labour Authority enforces the minimum wage.
The January figure matters beyond wages, too. Several benefits, including the state pension (AOW) and social assistance (bijstand), are linked to the minimum wage and move with it, so the indexation also shows up in those payments.
Update schedule for this page
This is a dated update page. We will add the official 1 January 2027 amount, converted to weekly, monthly and yearly figures for 32 to 40 hours, when the regulation appears. In May 2027 we will update it again for the 1 July 2027 rate. Until then, the 2026 amounts by hours are in the article on the Dutch minimum wage per month in 2026.
