How to use it

Enter your gross pay and choose hour, month or year. Paid by the hour? Add your hours per week. The calculator then works out a yearly wage (hourly rate × hours × 52 weeks).

Next, answer three questions:

  • Is holiday allowance already in this amount? Most Dutch contracts quote pay without the 8% vakantiegeld (holiday allowance). Choose "Yes" only if your offer says "including holiday allowance".
  • Have you reached AOW age? AOW is the Dutch state pension. In 2026 the AOW age is 67.
  • Payroll tax credit at this job? Choose "No" for a second job where your employer does not apply the credits.

The big number at the top is your net pay per month. Below it you see your net pay per year, your net holiday allowance in May and the full breakdown. Want to compare two offers? Switch on the second salary and see the difference per month.

The 2026 rules behind the result

Tax brackets

Yearly taxable payBelow AOW ageAOW age
Up to €38,88335.75%17.85%
€38,883 – €78,42637.56%37.56%
Above €78,42649.50%49.50%

These rates include national insurance premiums. From AOW age the first bracket is lower, because you no longer pay AOW premium.

Tax credits

  • Algemene heffingskorting (general tax credit): at most €3,115. It drops by 6.398% of your income above €29,736 and reaches €0 at about €78,426. From AOW age the maximum is €1,556.
  • Arbeidskorting (labour tax credit): builds up with your pay to a maximum of €5,685 at €45,592. Above that it drops by 6.51% and is gone from €132,920.
  • Ouderenkorting (elderly tax credit): up to €2,067 once you have reached AOW age. You get the full amount up to an income of €46,002. Above that it drops by 15% and is gone from €59,782.

Your employer subtracts these credits from the tax. What is left is the loonheffing (payroll tax) on your payslip.

Good to know

  • Pension is not included. Most employees pay a pension contribution. It lowers your taxable pay, but also your net pay. Your real payslip will usually be a bit lower.
  • Zvw is paid by your employer. The health insurance contribution of 6.10% (on pay up to €79,409) is shown for information. It is not taken from your net pay.
  • Your next euro costs more. The line "On your next euro" shows your marginal rate. Use the pay rise calculator to see what extra pay is worth.
  • Holiday allowance has its own page. For the May payout in detail, try the holiday allowance calculator.

Example: €3,500 gross per month

Sanne works full time for €3,500 gross per month, without holiday allowance. She is under AOW age and her employer applies the payroll tax credit. With her 8% holiday allowance she earns €45,360 gross in a year.

Gross per year (incl. holiday allowance)€45,360.00
Tax and premiums before credits€16,333.43
− General tax credit€2,115.38
− Labour tax credit€5,680.56
Payroll tax per year€8,537.50
Net per year€36,822.50
Net per month€2,906.16
Net holiday allowance (May)€1,948.53

On average Sanne pays about 19% tax. But on each extra euro she pays about 42%. That is why her €3,360 gross holiday allowance turns into €1,948.53 net.

Frequently asked questions

How much income tax do I pay in the Netherlands?

In 2026 you pay 35.75% on yearly income up to €38,883, 37.56% up to €78,426 and 49.50% above that. These rates include national insurance premiums. Tax credits then lower the amount, so your real average rate is much lower. With €45,360 a year it is about 19%.

Is holiday allowance taxed?
Yes. Holiday allowance is taxed with the bijzonder tarief (special rate) on your payslip. That rate is close to the tax you pay on your next euro, so it is higher than the average rate on your monthly pay. In the example on this page, about 42% of the holiday allowance goes to tax.
What does "payroll tax credit at this job" mean?
The loonheffingskorting lets your employer apply the general and labour tax credits to your pay each month. You can use it at one employer at a time. If you have a second job without it, more tax is withheld there. Choose "No" to see that situation.
Why is my real payslip lower than the result?

The calculator does not include pension contributions or other personal deductions, like a bike plan or union fee. Your employer also works with official wage tax tables that round slightly differently. The result is a close estimate of the tax part, not a copy of your payslip.

Can I compare two job offers?

Yes. Switch on "Compare with a second salary" and enter the second gross amount for the same period. You see the net pay per month for both, and the difference in euros. Check whether both offers include holiday allowance in the same way.
